Mr. Mohamad Salihin Deris currently serves as the Group Head of Shariah Management in Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad, a Malaysian development financial institution which is mandated to finance infrastructure, maritime oil & gas and technology sectors. He leads Group Shariah Management of the Bank in advising the Bank on Shariah compliance requirements for its Islamic financial business and in supporting its Shariah Committee’s oversight role. He is also responsible to implement initiatives to reinforce overall Shariah governance of the Bank. He brings with him approximately seventeen years of experience in Islamic finance and Shariah advisory both as policy maker and industry player.
He was with the Central Bank of Malaysia in its Islamic Banking & Takaful Department for eight years in-charge of formulation of legal and regulatory policy for Islamic finance industry as well as Shariah advisory and Islamic product submission reviews. He then joined CIMB Group in where his last position was the Senior Manager of its Shariah research unit. He later joined Hong Leong Islamic Bank as its Head of Shariah Review. His last position prior to joining Bank Pembangunan was Director at the Association of Islamic Banking Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM) in overseeing management of regulatory compliance affairs of member banks.
Academically, he graduated from IIUM where he obtained double-degree in Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Laws (Shariah). He also holds Associate Qualification in Islamic Finance (AQIF) certification from Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM). He has been appointed as a Panel Member for development of national competency standards and training curriculum for internal Shariah compliance management by the Asian Institute of Finance (AIF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia.
